Home Wine Room

Home Wine Room

This home wine room lives in a grade II listed property in holland park London. The owner wanted to increase the size of the existing home wine room we had delivered just over 12 months prior. We jumped at the chance to revisit the project and start creating options for a space three times the original size. Wine investors and collectors can quickly find themselves in a position where the quantities of wine they own will exceed their storage capacities. It’s important therefore you to take some time to think of the long-term requirements you will require for your home wine cellar.

Will you store cigars in your home wine room?

Wine collectors most certainly enjoy a cigar from time to time or have a large collection of cigars also. The storage environment for cigars is almost the same as that of wine. It requires strict considerations regarding humidity. These will be subject to drying out or rotting from incorrect humidity, just as the corks of wine will. In too moist or too cold conditions cigars will suffer from issues like tunneling while smoking. Therefore it's important that your home wine room designer understands the significance of climate control within the aesthetics.

The Design:

The design focus for this home wine room was to create maximum storage with the available space. This required opening of the existing wine storage space and creating new partition walls. Although Grade II laws won't allow major changes in structure, still you can put in internal partition walls. Therefore, partitioning off a nearby corridor became the solution for the new extension area to this home wine cellar. As the client stores, a mixture of red wine, white wine, spirits and cigars, temperature control was a general 14°c. The champagne is stored in a Eurocave wine fridge cladded into the original design left cheek.

The clients champagne sits upright at a high level continuing its journey wrapping around walls and columns into the extension area. The  existing stone counter is now full length of the new right wall. This allowed for our clients' full Whiskey and Gin collection to be on show. These bottles sit on concealed led lighting in order to have an illuminated look. A very ‘cool’ feature in the evenings or when in full home wine room party mode.

The finishes:

The joinery is finished in a sprayed finish using high-quality furniture grade moisture resistant core MDF. To achieve high-quality spray finishes it is essential to use specific furniture grade only timber products. These will be free of imperfections, stored correctly, and manufactured with the understanding of achieving high-end final finish products.

  • The overhead glass hanger is finished in polished brass.
  • Roman antique mirror with a gold tint on the back walls is used to complete the brass.
  • White polished Italian marble for the stone counter.

A home wine room project like this is typically a from £155,000+vat project to deliver in London.
